Try the Angry Cat and Happy Dog Back Stretches

Human back

Do you find yourself tired and stiff when you come home from a long day at work? After sitting in front of a computer in an uncomfortable chair, your lower back just won’t stop aching. In addition, you have that sharp stabbing pain in between your shoulder blades. What your back needs is some movement and a nice long stretch that will melt away all the tension that has built up during the day. The angry cat and happy dog stretch is a great way to increase mobility throughout your spinal column and ease the tension throughout your back muscles.

How to do the stretch

Position:

Find a clear space on the floor. Go onto all fours. Keep your hands and knees with your shoulders in alignment with your wrist and your knees under your hips.

Move:

Lengthen your spine. Inhale deeply, then exhale and round your back up toward the ceiling like an angry cat. Move your chin toward your navel tucking your head toward your chest.

Angry cat stretch stretches the thoracic and lumbar muscles.

Breathe:

Next, inhale and arch your back by dropping your belly toward the floor, like a happy dog, lifting your sit bones and head, allowing your eyes to gaze towards the ceiling.

Happy dog stretch keeps the muscles surrounding the thoracic and lumbar healthy.

Relax:

Hold each stretch to help you relax and enjoy a great night sleep.
