Ideas for Creating your Sacred Space and Building an Altar

Make Space. It could be a corner of a room, a floor area – just once there is clutter-free space. It does not have to be a lot of square footage.

Candles

Creating a dinner setting with candles can affect the ambiance of a room tremendously. Similarly, using candles can also create a mood of intimacy and discovery in worship. Worship can be enhanced, too, when it involves our sense of smell. Scented candles can be used once the smell does not become distracting or overwhelming.

Incense

For years incense has been used in Pre-Christian and Christian worship. God commanded the Israelites to place in the tabernacle “pure candlesticks,” and “sweet incense” (Exodus 31:8).
